The British Medical Association (BMA) is the UK’s leading organisation for doctors and medical students. It was founded in 1832 to help doctors share scientific and medical knowledge. We played a key role in the introduction of the regulation of the practice of medicine and lobbied for changes in public health policies to improve population health. Today we have 160,000 members from 142 countries, across all specialisms of the profession.
The BMA is one of the largest trade unions for doctors in the world. It supports doctors in all aspects of their work. We are there for doctors before they qualify until after they retire.
The BMA highlights and campaigns on key international issues of interest to the medical profession, from human rights to fair medical trade and wider global health challenges.
