Our partners

In addition to support from the British Medical Association there are other organisations who offer valuable services, information and organise events to help International Medical Graduate (IMG) establish themselves in the UK. Below are some organisations we would recommend. This is not a complete list of organisations that offer such services to IMGs and this list will be added to and reviewed regularly in order to ensure that such services are still offered and are of value to you.

The GMC – support for IMGs

All doctors who practise medicine in the UK must hold a registration with a licence to practise with the General Medical Council. The GMC is responsible for deciding which doctors are qualified to work in the UK – through a register of doctors - as well as overseeing medical education and training and setting standards for doctors to follow through their careers.

The GMC runs free workshops – called Welcome to UK Practice – that are designed to help doctors new to the UK. You will get practical advice, and explore different ethical scenarios that you may encounter. And you will learn more about our key standards and guidance. The workshops are designed for doctors who have gained your primary medical qualification outside of the UK and registered with a licence to practise within the last 12 months.
