Terms and conditions

The BMA supports you through every step of your career with a wide range of professional and personal benefits. See our complete list of membership benefits, as well as the full details of eligibility and how we provide employment support to members.

If your query is more involved we will pass it to a local adviser covering your employer or to the pensions department. Our advisers combine a detailed knowledge of employment law, industrial relations, contractual and pension matters, with a clear understanding of local issues so are well placed to help resolve your queries.

Support and assistance is offered to you on a discretionary basis. Therefore, you do not have an automatic right to such help but you will have your request fairly considered in appropriate circumstances.

There are certain areas in which we do not give support or assistance and we advise that you check first to avoid disappointment or misunderstandings.

If you are a new member

If you are a new member to the BMA or you are re-joining after a gap in your membership, please be advised that if your case is considered to predate your current BMA membership, assistance may be limited to telephone and email advice only.

This is for situations that began prior to your date of application. In some cases, local BMA representation may be excluded and you may be asked to prove the situation began during your current time in membership depending on time frames. You are encouraged to contact the BMA prior to joining in order to avoid any disappointment or misunderstandings.

Please also note that the BMA are unable to offer representation or support in issues surrounding any criminal, clinical, libel or case where you have already issued your own legal proceedings or external representatives.
